What happens if I don't pass the practical test the first time?

Practitioners who don't attain the safety standard required on the first practical test, are welcome to take a Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT) on the same day. 

The format for the SPCT is similar to the Initial Practical Test but with two examiners and a model.

Students are required to demonstrate safe needling practice of muscles included in the Muscle Safety Grid.

The focus of the SPCT consists of surface anatomy, needling direction, caution points and the referral pattern for the relevant muscle. 

A video recording of the SPCT will be taken to provide feedback for students, ensure testing consistency and provide evidence in case of disputes.

Our goal is to provide all students with the confidence to apply the safest Dry Needling techniques to help their patients. We support all students by providing them with practical training and theoretical knowledge, prior to and during the Practical course.

If I don't pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT)?

If a practitioner does not pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test, they can enrol & complete the Supplementary Medical Acupuncture & Dry Needling Course.

This means enrolling & completing the Medical Acupuncture & Dry Needling Course again which includes completing all online theory modules & the practical course again.

How do I enrol in a Supplementary Dry Needling Course?

Practitioners can enrol in any Supplementary Dry Needling Course in any location, at any time by clicking HERE.

There's a practical test on Sunday afternoon to ensure every practitioner is safe to use Dry Needling Therapy.

We try to make the environment as relaxed as possible.

Any questioned asked at the test will have been covered in the course.

Presenters will be assessing practitioners safe needling handling throughout the day.

What to expect:

Practitioners are expected to know the names of all muscles covered and their action.

All practitioners will be asked to demonstrate safe needling to the upper trapezius muscle.

Each practitioner will also pick 1-2 muscles out of a bag and asked questions about the needling technique for that muscle, including the name, location, surface anatomy, referral pattern, caution points and direction of needling.

Every question asked will relate to muscle surface anatomy & safe needling techniques taught at the practical course so make sure you take good notes throughout the day. 

In addition, your practical skills will also be assessed throughout the practical course to ensure you maintain a safe standard of practice.

Please note: CPD Health Courses reserves the right to video all practical examinations. The purpose of recording the practical examination is to provide important feedback to practitioners about their performance. The practical examination video recordings will be made available to the therapists on request (Terms & Conditions).

In order to run a practical course we are dependant on the centre to be open.

CPD HC Transfer Policy:

1. If your practical couse is scheduled to run and you can't attend due to recently introduced government travel restrictions, you can transfer to a course at a later date.

If travel restrictions are introduced 14-days or less from your practical course start date and you're unable to attend due to this, please Contact Us and we'll transfer your enrolment to a practical course at a later date or put your enrollment on hold, without a charge.

According to advice published on the Department of Education website, education providers should continue delivery so that students of all ages can benefit from their education and training in full.

We are continually evaluating all the known risks and how best to mitigate them so that we can keep you and our presenters safe while attending your practical course.

We have implemented all the relevant hygiene and cleaning measures listed on the "Operational Guidance" gov.uk page.

We will do everything we can to make your training experience feel safe while helping you achieve your goal of learning Dry Needling.

By working together, implementing screening and monitoring, we're confident that we can continue to deliver our courses.

Before attending your practical course:

• Please follow the advice given by Public Health England & UK Border control if you have returned from overseas travel within 14 days of your practical course
• Please do not attend the course if you think you may have been in close contact with a confirmed coronavirus case. You should monitor your health and seek urgent medical attention if this applies.
• You should not attend the course if you have any medical condition that may compromise your immune system. 
• These conditions are listed in the practical course consent form. Please ensure that you have read, understood and agreed to the consent before attending the course.
• You should not attend the course if you have flu-like symptoms like a cough, sore throat, fatigue, fever, shortness of breath, headache or runny nose. This advice applies to the period before attending the practical course or at any time during the course.
• You should not attend the course if you have tested positive to SARS-CoV-2 in the past ten days.
• We recommend that all participants download the NHS COVID-19 app.
• Use of the NHS COVID-19 app guidance provides information about how the app works.

On arrival at your Practical course:

• For us to ensure we can complete our COVID-SAFE screening (see below); we ask all participants to arrive 30 minutes before the start of each day's scheduled start time: Saturday & Sunday: Please arrive at 8:30 am
• You will be met at the venue entrance by one of our presenter team. Please do not enter the venue until you have been screened by one of our presenter team.
• On arrival at your practical course, one of our presenter team will complete the COVID-SAFE screening (see below). The screening check involves answering a series of health-related questions.
• If you answer "YES" to any of the screening questions on any of the course training days, unfortunately, you will not be able to attend the course, and you will be advised to seek medical advice or go to a COVID testing centre. We will also provide you with information about when and how you can resume your training.
• If you become unwell while attending the course or report feeling any of the signs or symptoms common to COVID-19, you will, unfortunately, be asked to leave the course and seek medical advice or go to a COVID testing centre. We will also provide you with information about when and how you can resume your training.
• If you have any of the most common COVID-19 signs or symptoms, you'll be asked to seek immediate medical advice or visit a COVID-19 testing centre.

• COVID-SAFE Screening Questions:
• Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus?
• Have you any flu-like symptoms like a cough, sore throat, fatigue, fever, shortness of breath, headache or runny nose?

• Masks are not required while attending your practical course

PPE – Aprons

• PPE aprons are not required while attending your practical course during the practical course
• There will be no covers or pillows used on the treatment tables to minimise soiling and make it easier to clean between practice sessions
• We will continue our standard practice of applying hand sanitiser before all Dry Needling practice sessions and wearing gloves on the non-needling hand
• We will also remind all course participants about the need for washing their hands before and after meal/toilet breaks
• All treatment tables will be wiped down after each use, using alcohol wipes or antiseptic spray
• All course participants will be reminded about covering their mouth and nose with a tissue or arm if they sneeze or cough

We are closely monitoring the advice given by the Public Health England and the Department of Education for any changes and any impact this may have on our COVID-SAFE plan and the viability of presenting practical courses. For safety reasons, this includes understanding the location & course of caution points such as the arteries & nerves. 
 
After enrolment, we provide all the necessary online theory training in readiness for the practical course (18-hr online theory modules).
 
You can download the Muscle Safety Grid which is the go-to document for the practical course.
 
Before attending the practical course, we ask all practitioners to study & learn everything on the Muscle Safety Grid (3-page document), in order to have a good understanding of the caution points and their locations.
 
The Muscle Safety Grid includes the Caution points, Needle directions, Grips and Referral patterns for each muscle.
 
These are then covered again in detail at the practical course.

We don't expect practitioners to remember referral pattens off by heart before they join the practical.

They are a reference so when you attend the practical course you have some idea of the patterns when needling particular muscles. We will go over all these again at the practical course.

Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT):

Our goal is to provide all students with the confidence to apply the safest Dry Needling techniques to help their patients. We support all students by providing them with practical training and theoretical knowledge, prior to and during the Practical course.

Our support assists all students in achieving their goal of delivering safe Dry Needling practice, gaining progressive confidence and achieving greater efficacy with experience.

Students who do not reach the required standard during the Practical Course Test will be offered a Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT) on the same day.

The format for the SPCT is similar to the Initial Practical Test but with two examiners and a model. Students are required to demonstrate safe needling practice of muscles included in the Muscle Safety Grid. The focus of the SPCT consists of surface anatomy, needling direction, caution points and the referral pattern for the relevant muscle. 

A video recording of the SPCT will be taken to provide feedback for students, ensure testing consistency and provide evidence in case of disputes.

What happens if I don't pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test?

If a practitioner does not pass the Supplementary Practical Course Test, they can complete the Supplementary Medical Acupuncture & Dry Needling Course. 

This means enrolling & completing the Medical Acupuncture & Dry Needling online theory & practical course again at a reduced price of £175.

Practitioners who don't attain the safety standard required on the first practical test, are welcome to take a supplementary test on the same day. 

Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT):

Our goal is to provide all students with the confidence to apply the safest Dry Needling techniques to help their patients. We support all students by providing them with practical training and theoretical knowledge, prior to and during the Practical course.

Our support assists all students in achieving their goal of delivering safe Dry Needling practice, gaining progressive confidence and achieving greater efficacy with experience.

Students who do not reach the required standard during the Practical Course Test will be offered a Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT) on the same day.

This means enrolling & completing the Medical Acupuncture & Dry Needling online theory & practical course again at a reduced price of £175.

This course is open to Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Sports Therapists, Sports Rehabilitators, General Practitioner treating myofascial pain and L4/5 Sports / Remedial Massage Therapist (ITEC/ VTCT).

The minimum qualification to join the Medical Acupuncture & Dry Needling Course is L4/5 Sports / Remedial Massage Therapist (ITEC/ VTCT).

Before enrolling in any CPD HC Dry Needling course, we advise all practitioners to check with their professional indemnity insurer that they'll be eligible to gain a DN Therapy endorsement on their Certificate of Currency to use DN Therapy after successful completion of the CPD HC Dry Needling course, with their current qualification.

This is an explanation of why transfer fees are incurred by any person who is unable to attend a scheduled practical course. 

This response is general in nature and is not meant to address the specific concerns of any therapist/s.

CPD HC has been in business for the past ten years. 

We present courses almost every weekend in the UK & Australia.

Every week, we receive emails from therapists who have booked their practical course dates but cannot attend for many reasons, including the death of a family member. 

We believe every single person's reason for not being able to participate in the course without questioning their case's veracity.

Last-minute cancellations place our business in a challenging position, not just morally but financially. 

If we are to continue to run a business, we need to remain economically viable.

Here's a typical example:

We have twenty-six students booked into a practical course at the start of a given month. 

Knowing this information, we plan to have enough presenters, flights for those presenters, catering, courier enough treatment tables and supplies, and hire of a suitable room size. 

Indirect costs include our presenters' fees in cancelling their patient lists on Friday afternoon and Saturday to teach at the course.

If six of the original twenty-six therapists tell us they cannot attend, giving us seven days' notice or less, we have a financial hole in the budget for that course. 

We are also unable to fill places if a practitioner cannot attend at short notice, due to pre-requisite study that has to be completed before attending a practical course.

Regardless of why a therapist cannot participate, we have committed to paying for costs that are no longer required.

All of these extras amount to several thousand dollars. 

The transfer fees we request from therapists who cannot attend for any reason are a fraction of the actual cost to our business. 

The transfer fees are not penalties but are a small contribution to the debt we incur every time a therapist is unable to attend. 

This debt does not respect the reason or morality of the circumstances.

Like many businesses in Australia and worldwide, we face rising costs and inflation. 

At this time, we cannot see a fairer or more practical solution to this challenge other than asking therapists who are unable to attend, regardless of their reasons, to pay a transfer fee to partly compensate us for the costs that we have incurred and cannot get refunded for, regardless of our reasons.

We have a tiered transfer fee policy linked to the notice given by the therapist; the more notice we receive, the lower the transfer fee. 

We believe that this is a reasonable compromise addressing this ubiquitous business challenge.

The document concludes by asking all therapists to ensure that they are clear about the English Language requirements and suggests that if a therapist is in any doubt they should contact us, so we can assist in making the right decision about the suitability to attend this course.

The 80-Hour Dry Needling Course for RMTs is divided into two parts; an online theory program and a practical course, which must be completed in one weekend.

Therapists attending the practical course are required to successfully complete a Practical Course Test on Saturday afternoon, at the end of Part-1 of the course (DN Introdctory), in order to attend Part-2 (DN Advanced).

Successful completion of the Practical Course test ensures that all therapists are safe and competent with respect to the surface and clinical anatomy, caution points, grips, needling directions and referral patterns for key muscles taught at the course.

The Practical Test is conducted using commonly used anatomical and medical terms in English. There is no provision for therapists to take the Test in another language, other than English or to use a translator.

Therapists must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding and command of the English Language in a written and spoken form, not only during the Practicaal Test, but also during the practical course demonstrations. 

They must also be able to understand, apply, explain and pronounce commonly used medical terminology to demonstrate safe Dry Needling practice and management of adverse events.

Given that the CPD HC Dry Needling courses are presented in Australia, an English speaking country, therapists must be able to understand patients who speak English.

Patients, clients or customers quite rightly expect their treating practitioner will be able to understand and communicate with them in Australia's national language.

Common scenarios which mandate the use of English include:

• Patients who present with adverse events following Dry Needling Therapy treatment
• Communication with other therapists, including medical and allied health professionals
• Reading, comprehending and applying information such as medical reports, previous medical history, medication, x-ray reports, treatment plans and scan reports

The Medical Acupuncture & Dry Needling Course is open to Remedial Massage Therapists.

The online theory program provides you with all the necessary clinical & surface anatomy presented in easy to watch video modules.

The pre-requisite to join the DN Advanced Course is enrollment in or completion of the Medical Acupuncture & Dry Needling Course.

When enrolling, please choose Qualified Dry Needling Therapist as your profession.

Unfortunately not :(( The minimum qualification to join the Medical Acupuncture & Dry Needling Course is a Level 4 Remedial Massage Therapist.

If a place is available, you're welcome to transfer your enrolment to a practical course on an earlier date.
