Covid-Safe Plan
Covid-Safe Plan 2020 - Information for Therapists Attending a Practical Course
Introduction
We are really looking forward to starting teaching again. It’s been so long since we had a room full of enthusiastic therapists all eager to learn Dry Needling.
We have developed a COVID-SAFE Plan for all our courses to keep you and our presenters safe while attending your practical course.
The plan will be effective from the first scheduled courses in January 2021 and will be in place until further notice at all of our practical courses.
We will adapt the plan according to how things develop over the coming months.
The plan includes pre-course information about risk factors and monitoring for COVID related signs and symptoms.
We have also developed a COVID-SAFE Screening procedure which will be conducted on arrival at the course in addition to the procedures we’ve implemented during the practical course.
IMPORTANT - Information about your Safety - Please READ.
Given the current COVID-19 pandemic, we have been considering all the available information and advice from the Government regarding public gatherings. We are continually evaluating all the known risks and how best to mitigate against them so that we can keep you and our presenters safe while attending your Practical course.
We will do everything we can to make your training experience feel safe while helping you achieve your goal of learning Dry Needling. By working together, implementing screening and monitoring, we’re confident that we can continue to deliver our courses.
Here are the measures we have put in place to ensure that we maintain the highest level of safety to comply with the advice given by Public Health England (PHE).
Before attending your practical course:
- Please do not attend the course if you have returned from any overseas travel within 14 days of commencement of your practical course.
- Please do not attend the course if you think that you may have been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19. You should monitor your health and seek urgent medical attention if this applies.
- You should not attend the course if you have any medical condition that may compromise your immune system; these conditions are listed in the practical course consent form.
- You should not attend the course if you have flu-like symptoms like a cough, sore throat, fatigue, fever, shortness of breath, headache or runny nose. This applies to the period before attending the practical course or at any time during the course.

On arrival at your Practical course:
For us to ensure we can complete our COVID-SAFE screening and temperature check; we ask all participants to arrive 30 minutes before the start of each day’s scheduled start time.
- You will be met at the venue entrance by one of our presenter team. Please do not enter the venue until you have been screened by one of our presenter team.
- On arrival at your practical course, one of our presenter team will complete the COVID-SAFE screening and temperature check. The screening check involves answering a series of health-related questions and taking your forehead temperature.
- If you answer “YES” to any of the screening questions on any of the course training days, unfortunately you will not be able to attend the course, and you will be advised to seek medical advice.
- We will also provide you with information about when and how you can resume your training.
- If you become unwell while you are attending the course or report feeling any of the signs or symptoms common to COVID-19, unfortunately you will be asked to leave the course and seek medical advice.
- We will also provide you with information about when and how you can resume your training.

Practical Course (30)
Am I expected to know all the grips, referral pattens and cation points before attending the practical course?
There's an informal practical test on Sunday afternoon to ensure practitioners are safe to use the DN techniques.
Muscle Safety Grid:
The most important thing to do after completing the online theory program is to concentrate on the Muscle Safety Grid, which we provide as part of the online learning.
The Muscle Safety Grid includes the Caution points, Needle directions, Grips and Referral patterns for each muscle with a caution point. These are covered again at the practical course.
1. We don't expect practitioners to remember referral pattens off by heart before joining the practical course. They are a reference so when you attend the practical course you have some idea of the patterns when needling particular muscles. We will go over all these again at the practical.
2. The most important thing to do after completing the online theory program is to concentrate on the Muscle Safety Grid, taking note of & remembering the Caution points, Needle directions & Grips for each muscle on that grid. We will go over & teach all these again at the practical.
3. We don't expect practitioners to know the grips before joining the practical course, but you'll find it easier to remember them when we teach you these at the practical course if you have some idea of names before attending the practical. We will go over & teach all these at the practical.
4. It's a good idea to cross reference the Muscle Safety Grid information with the practical course handout notes which you should download, print and bring to the practical course.
Both of these are available on the 'My Courses' page.
5. Please ensure you login to our Video Training Site & watch the training videos we've specially prepared to help you get ready for your course & the practical test.
Use your email address as your username & your first name (all lower case) as your password.
5. Please watch the 'How to Prepare for your Practical Course' video on the 'My Courses' page.
After studying the above you'll be well prepared to join the practical course.
Can I leave the course early on Sunday?
Unfortunately not. This course is accredited according to completing a specific number hours of training.
All practitioners need to attend the whole course in order to receive their Certificate of Completion.
Can I take the test again on the same day?
If I fail the practical test, can I take the test again on the same day?
Yes. Practitioners who don't attain the safety standard required on the first practical test, are welcome to take a Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT) on the same day.
Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT):
Our goal is to provide all students with the confidence to apply the safest Dry Needling techniques to help their patients. We support all students by providing them with practical training and theoretical knowledge, prior to and during the Practical course.
Our support assists all students in achieving their goal of delivering safe Dry Needling practice, gaining progressive confidence and achieving greater efficacy with experience.
Students who do not reach the required standard during the Practical Course Test will be offered a Supplementary Practical Course Test (SPCT) on the same day.
The format for the SPCT is similar to the Initial Practical Test but with two examiners and a model. Students are required to demonstrate safe needling practice of muscles included in the Muscle Safety Grid. The focus of the SPCT consists of surface anatomy, needling direction, caution points and the referral pattern for the relevant muscle.
A video recording of the SPCT will be taken to provide feedback for students, ensure testing consistency and provide evidence in case of disputes.
We strongly recommend that all students review and familiarise themselves with the answers to the Sample Questions list. The list is available on the "My Courses" page and will help you prepare for the Practical Course Test.

In addition, he has more than 30 years’ clinical and teaching experience, having taught at RMIT University & Victoria University. Dr Mahmoud has presented Dry Needling courses in the United Kingdom, Kuwait, Egypt, Dubai, India, New Zealand, and was invited to present at the Tenth World Congress on Myofascial Pain Syndrome and Fibromyalgia Syndrome, Bangalore, India in 2017.
4. All our presenters have completed a two-year training program, under the guidance of Dr Wayne Mahmoud. Our Presenter Training Program (PTP) provides Manual Therapists that attend our Dry Needling courses the assurance of consistent training practices based on safe dry needling practice.
5. Our presenter team includes Medical Doctors, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Remedial Massage Therapists who have completed their training with CPD Health Courses. All of our presenters have a shared passion for Dry Needling practice, a love of teaching, and a goal to help students achieve their best at every course they present.

10. We offer all therapists access to our Dry Needling Video Training Site (Video Training Site) where they can choose from over 350 video clips as part of a regularly updated online content library. The site also provides users with access to Dr Wayne Mahmoud who is available to answer questions about needling techniques, safety practices, and patient presentations.
